Okavango Delta Safaris

Why Travelers Love This Safari

Botswana and Uganda offer remarkably different safari experiences.

Botswana is famous for its waterways, vast wilderness and exceptional wildlife viewing. The Okavango Delta creates a constantly changing landscape of lagoons, channels, islands and floodplains where wildlife can be experienced from game vehicles and, depending on seasonal conditions, by mokoro and boat.

Uganda offers a completely different adventure.

Here, the journey leads into the mountains of southwestern Uganda and the ancient rainforest of Bwindi, home to endangered mountain gorillas.

Arrive at Maun Airport, the gateway to Botswana’s Okavango Delta. From Maun, board a light aircraft for a scenic flight over the waterways and floodplains of the Okavango to the Moremi area.

On arrival at the local airstrip, the Moremi Crossing team will meet you and transfer you to camp.

Settle into your spacious tented accommodation overlooking the wilderness before heading out for your first afternoon safari activity.

Keep your eyes open for elephants, hippos, giraffes, buffalo, zebra and other wildlife as you begin your Botswana adventure.

Accommodation: Moremi Crossing
Meals: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Moremi Game Drives & Okavango Wildlife

Wake to the sounds of the African wilderness before setting out for a full day exploring the Moremi ecosystem.

Depending on seasonal conditions and water levels, your activities may include a morning and afternoon game drive, guided nature walk, mokoro excursion or boat cruise.

The Okavango is particularly special because wildlife viewing changes between land and water environments. You may encounter elephants moving through the floodplains, hippos in the channels, buffalo, giraffes, zebra and predators.

Return to Moremi Crossing for an evening around the camp and another night beneath the African sky.

Accommodation: Moremi Crossing
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Mokoro Safari & Guided Wilderness Experience

Spend another unforgettable day immersed in the Okavango wilderness.

An early morning activity gives you the opportunity to explore when wildlife is most active. Depending on conditions, you can enjoy another game drive or venture deeper into the waterways by mokoro. Later, relax at camp before an afternoon safari activity.

This flexible day allows the safari team to choose the best experience according to wildlife movements, water levels and local conditions.

Accommodation: Moremi Crossing
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4: Moremi – Maun – Fly to Uganda

Enjoy your final morning safari activity and breakfast before transferring to the airstrip for your light-aircraft flight back to Maun.

From Maun, connect with your international flight toward Entebbe, Uganda. Upon arrival in Uganda, you will be met and transferred to your accommodation or airport hotel depending on your flight schedule.

This is the connecting day between two very different African ecosystems. From Botswana’s low-lying wetlands, the journey takes you toward Uganda’s green hills and tropical forests.

Accommodation: Entebbe Airport Hotel — if required based on flight schedule
Meals: Breakfast

Important: This day is intentionally designed as the international connection day between Botswana and Uganda. The exact flight routing should be confirmed according to the traveler’s dates.

“International flight from Maun to Entebbe is not included in the safari price but can be arranged on request.”

Day 5: Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast, begin your journey southwest toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Travel through Uganda’s countryside, passing rolling hills, villages, farms and beautiful landscapes.

You can include a stop at the Equator for photographs and a short experience before continuing toward southwestern Uganda. As you approach Bwindi, the scenery becomes increasingly mountainous and lush.

Arrive at Haven Lodge Buhoma Community, settle in and enjoy a relaxed evening while preparing for tomorrow’s gorilla trekking adventure.

The atmosphere here is completely different from Botswana.

Instead of wetlands and open savannah, you are surrounded by thick rainforest, steep hills and the sounds of the forest.

Accommodation: Haven Lodge Buhoma Community
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Bwindi Gorilla Trekking – Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Today is the centerpiece of your Uganda adventure. After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for briefing before entering Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

With experienced trackers and Uganda Wildlife Authority guides, begin your trek through the ancient rainforest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. The trek can take several hours depending on where the gorillas are located. Once you find the family, you will spend the permitted viewing period observing them in their natural environment.

Watch as they feed, climb, play, interact and move through the forest. After the trek, return for lunch before continuing to Lake Bunyonyi.

Arrive at the lake and check into Lake Bunyonyi Lodge, surrounded by spectacular hills and islands.

Enjoy a peaceful evening overlooking one of Uganda’s most scenic lakes.

Accommodation: Lake Bunyonyi Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7: Lake Bunyonyi Canoe Experience – Entebbe & Departure

Wake to beautiful views over Lake Bunyonyi.

After breakfast, enjoy a traditional canoe experience across the lake, taking in its islands, surrounding hills and local communities.

After the canoe excursion, begin the scenic journey back toward Kampala/Entebbe.

Depending on your international flight schedule, you will be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for your onward journey.

Your Botswana Uganda adventure ends with memories of two completely different African wilderness experiences: the waterways of the Okavango and the mountain forests of Bwindi.

Best Time for a Botswana and Uganda Safari

Botswana and Uganda can be visited at different times of the year, but seasonal conditions vary between the two destinations.

The Okavango Delta changes dramatically according to water levels, while gorilla trekking in Bwindi is possible throughout the year.

This makes it important to plan the journey around the traveler’s preferred wildlife experiences, weather conditions, availability and budget.

Travelers interested in water-based Okavango activities should pay particular attention to seasonal water levels, while those planning gorilla trekking should secure their gorilla permits well in advance.
