Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Bwindi impenetrable national park

Your adventure begins with a pickup at Kigali International Airport or your hotel in Kigali. Meet your safari driver-guide and begin the scenic journey towards Uganda's southwestern highlands.

After the necessary immigration formalities at the appropriate Rwanda–Uganda border crossing, continue towards your designated Bwindi trekking sector. The journey offers beautiful views of rolling hills, rural communities and the lush countryside of the region.

Arrive at your budget safari lodge, check in and enjoy time to relax before tomorrow's gorilla trek. Your guide will brief you on the early start and help ensure you are prepared for the experience.

Accommodation: Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge or similar

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Cultural Experience

Begin your day with an early breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for your gorilla trekking briefing. Accompanied by experienced park rangers and trackers, venture into the lush rainforest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family.

The trek takes you through beautiful forest trails, where the excitement builds with every step. Once you find the gorillas, spend up to one unforgettable hour observing their behaviour, family interactions and the remarkable presence of these endangered primates in their natural habitat.

After your trek, return to your lodge for lunch and a short rest, allowing time to recover from the forest walk.

In the afternoon, enjoy an optional Batwa Cultural Experience, led by members of the Batwa community, the Indigenous people who traditionally lived in Bwindi's forest. Through storytelling, traditional songs and dance, and demonstrations of ancestral forest knowledge, discover more about their heritage and enduring connection to the forest.

Accommodation: Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge or similar

Day 3: Return to Kigali and departure

Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before beginning your return journey to Kigali through Uganda's scenic southwestern countryside.

Cross back into Rwanda through the appropriate border post and continue towards Kigali International Airport or your preferred drop-off point in the city.

If your flight schedule permits, your driver can discuss a short stop along the way. Please arrange international departure flights with sufficient time for the road journey, border formalities and airport check-in.

Your three-day mountain gorilla adventure concludes with unforgettable memories of one of Africa's most extraordinary wildlife encounters.

Key information

Can I visit Bwindi from Kigali in three days?

Yes. A three-day itinerary is practical when you travel by road from Kigali, spend two nights near the correct Bwindi trekking sector and return to Kigali on the third day. Allow enough time for border formalities and traffic.

Is gorilla trekking physically demanding?

It can be. Treks may last between two and seven hours, depending on the gorillas' location and terrain. Walking conditions can be steep, muddy and slippery.

Which border crossing is best for Bwindi?

Cyanika is often practical for Rushaga and Nkuringo, while Katuna may suit Ruhija and Buhoma. Your route should match your confirmed gorilla permit and accommodation.

Can I book a private safari?

Yes. Sarit Gorilla Safaris can quote a private arrangement, subject to availability, with a dedicated guide and vehicle. The per-person cost typically depends on how many travellers share the vehicle and other trip expenses.

$ 1,970 per adult
